At Cameron Brae, our commitment to excellence in planning is rooted in a meticulous process that combines expert insights, community engagement, and a flexible framework for future growth. Our approach ensures that every development is crafted with the future user in mind, reflecting our dedication to creating vibrant, sustainable communities. Here’s a closer look at our rigorous master-planning process, the brains trust behind our efforts, and the collaborative journey we’re on with local councils and community stakeholders.
Planning a master-planned community is no small feat. It requires a detailed and structured approach to ensure that every aspect is thoughtfully considered and meticulously executed. At Cameron Brae, we partner with leading experts and consultants to bring our vision to life.
Taylor Brammer – Landscape Architecture James Horan from Taylor Brammer brings design excellence and sustainability to the landscape architecture of Birling. The teams historical and genius loci-informed design thinking helps create aesthetically pleasing and environmentally conscious spaces, enhancing the overall appeal and liveability of the community.
E8 Urban – Urban Design and Planning Led by Jo Rowling, E8 Urban provides urban strategy, planning, and design services. They focus on medium-density housing, urban renewal, and evidence-based planning, ensuring that Birling’s urban design is cohesive, functional, and sustainable. Their experience with major urban renewal projects brings valuable insights to our master-planning efforts. Our collaborative efforts with these key partners ensure that our masterplanning process is grounded in expertise and innovative thinking.
Creating spaces that are not only functional but also adaptable to future needs is a core principle at Cameron Brae. Our masterplan for Birling is designed with flexibility in mind, allowing for future changes and developments to be seamlessly integrated. This approach ensures that the community can evolve and thrive over time.
Engaging with local councils early in the planning process is crucial. We’ve been fortunate to have a positive and collaborative relationship with Camden Council, which has been instrumental in refining our masterplan. Early involvement has been appreciated by the council, as noted by Jamie Erken, who expressed gratitude for our proactive approach.
Paul Gerlach, our General Manager, emphasised the importance of learning from Camden Council’s experience as a growth council. Their advice has been invaluable in applying best practices and smart planning strategies to our project.
Joe from E8 Urban highlighted the significance of refining and incorporating place pillars and vision based on detailed investigations and broader studies. This has opened up amazing opportunities with the bluegreen base of the site, particularly Lowes Creek. By eliminating disconnected grids, we’re providing better connectivity for residents, resulting in more usable open spaces.
Our masterplan translates vision pillars into tangible, place-based realities. Housing differentiation between precincts, increased densities framing open spaces, and various movement corridors are just a few ways we’re activating and connecting the community. Our principles focus on embracing the unique characteristics of the site, including Lowes Creek and its vegetation, while addressing urban heat with shade and tree canopies.
The development includes thoughtfully designed spaces and amenities that cater to diverse needs:
Throughout the planning process, we’ve actively sought feedback and observations from various stakeholders, including engineers, landscape managers, and heritage experts. This collaborative approach ensures that our masterplan is robust, addressing critical aspects such as urban heat management, public space design, and community facilities.
Our ongoing engagement with Camden Council and other stakeholders ensures that we remain aligned with community needs and expectations. By incorporating their insights and feedback, we’re creating a masterplan that is not only visionary but also practical and responsive to future changes.
At Cameron Brae, we believe in the power of thoughtful planning, expert collaboration, and community engagement. Our masterplan for Birling reflects our commitment to these principles, ensuring a vibrant and sustainable community for generations to come.
