Discovering Cultural Depth on Birling’s Doorstep: Our Visit to the BAPS Hindu Mandir and Cultural Precinct

Mon Sep 22

At Cameron Brae Group, we believe that great communities thrive when lifestyle, opportunity, and cultural experiences come together. Alongside the transformative impact of Western Sydney International Airport and Bradfield City, it is equally important to celebrate the cultural richness that is shaping the future of this region.

Our team recently visited the newly inaugurated BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir and Cultural Precinct at Kemps Creek which opened to the public in March 2025. Spread across 25 acres, the precinct features traditional Indian architecture, Australia’s tallest metal statue, a meditation garden with native Australian plants, and a cultural centre designed as “a site for sharing, learning and understanding for people from all backgrounds.”

This is more than a place of worship; it is a destination that brings people together. Just like Birling, the BAPS cultural precinct is a celebration of inclusivity, diversity, and connection.

A Place for All

During our visit, we were struck by the sense of welcome and the scale of the vision. With its blend of artistry, spirituality, and open space, the precinct adds to the growing list of world-class amenities that make Western Sydney such an exciting place to live.

One detail that stood out to our team was the statue of an 11-year-old boy  (Bhagwan Swaminarayan), captured standing on one leg. This reflects a real moment from history, when he meditated in the freezing mountains of Nepal for almost three months without moving. It’s a striking reminder of resilience, discipline, and vision, qualities that continue to shape the communities of Western Sydney today.

Here’s what our team had to say:

“The BAPS precinct is not just a cultural icon, but also a reminder that our region is about so much more than infrastructure. It is about people, diversity, and creating places that enrich everyday life.”
Sarah Neilsen, Placemaking Lead, Cameron Brae Group

“For us in marketing, it highlights a powerful message. When you choose to live in Birling, you are connected to world-class cultural, recreational, and lifestyle experiences right at your doorstep.”
Erin Austin, Senior Marketing Manager, Cameron Brae Group

“From an assets perspective, cultural destinations like this strengthen Western Sydney’s identity as a hub of activity and attract more people to the area. They complement the region’s retail, commercial, and community offerings, showing the depth of amenity beyond shopping and services.”
Kate Strickland, Head of Assets, Cameron Brae Group

Celebrating a Region of Growth and Diversity

The formal inauguration of the BAPS cultural centre was held on March 5 2025 with a grand prayer ceremony, followed by the consecration of the Tapomurti statue on March 6. Together, these events marked the completion of Phase 1 of the project, with Phase 2, the construction of a traditional stone temple now underway.

With developments like this, Western Sydney is not only gaining infrastructure and housing but also cultural landmarks that enrich the fabric of the community.

At Birling, we are proud to be part of this evolving story which blends opportunity, diversity, and a bright future.
