Spring has arrived at Birling, and with it comes an exciting next step in bringing our Green Symphony to life.
Soon, the first section of Birling’s Green Spine will begin to take shape, with Alpine Nurseries preparing to deliver an extensive collection of mature trees, grasses and groundcovers for the Stage 3 section of Birling Parkway.
And when we say green, we mean a lot of green.
Large-scale trees including Angophora floribunda, Brachychiton populneus, Eucalyptus moluccana, Eucalyptus sideroxylon ‘Rosea’ and Melaleuca decora will form part of the landscape, complemented by native grasses and groundcovers including Lomandra, Bulbine, Rytidosperma, Themeda and Carex.
Some of the feature trees will arrive in containers as large as 200 litres, helping establish an immediate landscape presence while creating a canopy that will continue to mature over the years ahead.
More than a streetscape
The Green Spine is an important part of Birling’s broader landscape vision – our Green Symphony.
Rather than treating landscaping as something added once homes and roads are complete, Birling has been designed around a connected network of green spaces, tree-lined streets, parks and landscaped corridors.
The Green Spine will become one of the community’s defining green connections, bringing together layers of canopy trees, smaller planting, grasses and groundcovers to create shade, habitat, seasonal colour and a greener journey through the neighbourhood.
The planting palette has also been designed to celebrate the character of the Australian landscape, with species selected to create different heights, textures and experiences as you move through the community.
Designed to get better with age
Perhaps the most exciting thing about planting a tree is knowing what it will become.
The trees arriving at Birling this spring are only the beginning. As they establish and mature, their canopies will expand, the layers of planting beneath them will fill out and the character of Birling Parkway will continue to evolve.
Over time, today’s newly planted landscape will become tomorrow’s shady streets, green connections and familiar neighbourhood landmarks.
This is the idea behind Birling’s Green Symphony: not simply creating green spaces, but creating a community where landscape is woven into everyday life.
And this spring, another important part of that vision starts growing.
